Introduction:

In order to cultivate more high-level talents in overseas Chinese teaching and international Chinese promotion, OEC offers master programs to non-Chinese nationals with a bachelor’s degree or higher academic degree certificate. A Chinese proficiency of New HSK Level 5(>210 scores) or above is required.

The programs cover studies such as Chinese Language and Literature, Journalism and Communication, and Education, with emphases on the study of modern linguistics and applied linguistics and the theories and methods of TCFL, so that students will be well equipped to independently carry out TCFL teaching and research activities.

OEC has developed an international talent cultivation model for graduate students in collaboration with 16 Confucius Institutes co-established with prestigious universities in the world, forging its unique strengths in TCFL and international Chinese promotion. Through years of constant effort and consistent reform, we have created a quality graduate program, ranking 1st nationally in the assessment of Professional Degree Programs for graduates organized by the Ministry of Education of China.

 

Majors:

  • Academic degree (3 years):

Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (LAL)
Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL)
International Promotion of Chinese Language
International Chinese Language Education

  • Professional degree (2 years):

Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

 

Duration of Study:

2-5 years (including period(s) registered as non-attendance), full time


Curriculum:

Common courses: Advanced Chinese; Introduction to China; Chinese Linguistics
Major courses:
General Introduction to Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Intercultural Communication, Second Language Acquisition, Cases Studies of Chinese Language Teaching in Foreign Countries, etc.
Optional courses:
Introduction to Educational Statistics, Topics in Modern Chinese, Contrastive Linguistics Between Chinese and Foreign Languages, Classics of Chinese Culture, Chinese Culture and Art Show, HSK6 Tutorial, etc.
Other learning activities: practice teaching, Chinese culture experience, academic salons, etc.

Certificates Awarded:
Degree: Master of Arts of Xiamen University
Diploma: Graduate Certificate of Xiamen University

 

Fees:

New Student registration fee: 400 RMB

Tuition: 1. Academic programs: 26000 RMB/ year, 78000 RMB in total; 2. Professional program: 30000 RMB/year, 60000 RMB in total.

 

Qualifications to Apply:

1. Non-Chinese citizens:

  • Generally under the age of 45 at the time of applying;
  • Healthy;
  • Bachelor's degree or above;
  • New HSK Level 5 (≥210 scores) or above.                                                                                       

2. Permenent residents of Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan:

  • Healthy; 
  • Bachelor's degree (or with an associate degree and at least two years after graduation) or higher academic degree;
  • Taking the Postgraduate Entrance Examination for Permanent Residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

 

Documents for Application:

1. Non-Chinese citizens:

  • ID photo;
  • A photocopy of passport;
  • Photocopy of highest degree certificate and transcripts & notarized copy in English or Chinese;
  • CV;
  • Study or research plan;
  • Two written letters of recommendation (in Chinese or English) signed by associate professors or scholars of higher ranks; 
  • New HSK Level 5 certificate or above.

2. Permanent residents of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan:

  • New HSK Level 5 certificate is not required.
  • Besides the documents mentioned in 1, extra documents required include: for Hong Kong and Macao residents, Hong Kong or Macao Permanent Resident Identity Card and Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents; for Taiwan residents, Taiwan resident certificate and Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents.
